Starman debut on Sky One
new series set to explode on Sky ONE
Sky One is to air the story of an up and coming pop band, as part of a major new documentary filmed in London’s renowned Pineapple Dance studios.
The featured band, Starman, intend to release a single off the back of the show, which airs for the first time on February 14.
The band formed a just year ago when music entrepreneur and the band’s manager Robert Davies met Pineapple dance teacher, singer and self-proclaimed “ready made pop-star” Andrew Stone.
The band were then discovered by Sky when they approached Pineapple to make the new documentary, Pineapple Studios: Survival of the Fittest.
Davies, who used to work for Simon Cowell at Syco, is surprised at how fast the band has shot to fame. “It was pot luck really, but Sky has said it’s some of the best television they’ve seen. I haven’t watched any yet, but Andrew [Stone] is an interesting guy and will cause quite a media frenzy,” he says.
Pineapple dance studio has been a rehearsal space for Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Beyonce and Girls Aloud, and the show will follow the lives of its students and teachers as well as Starman’s progress.
Described as a mix between Airport and Fame, it is produced by Jonathan Stadlen who made the award winning Secret Millionaire series for Channel 4.
